Painting with Pastel

For adults of all levels

All elements and principles of art will be covered: composition, values, edges, color, etc. Students will work at their own level. The instructor will do demos and help everyone hands on. You will work from still life and photos (landscape and figures), starting with black and white and working your way to color. With practice everyone can become accomplished and learn to see like an artist. The magic word is ATTITUDE. What kind of artist do you want to be?

Creative Acrylics

For teens (16+) and adults of all levels

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to gain a solid understanding of acrylic painting materials, properties, and techniques. Students will be encouraged to explore a range of subjects, including still life, landscapes, and abstraction. It aims to give students the confidence to develop their self-expression and create their own visual style.

Enhancing Watercolour

with Renée Mizgala

Students should have a basic knowledge of watercolour and be ready to attempt more difficult subject matter. They will learn techniques not only on regular watercolour paper, but also how to paint on canvas and other Oriental papers. Through demonstrations and critiques students will be encouraged to paint not only in a realistic manner, but also in a more painterly and personal approach. They must be willing to experiment and be daring!

Drawing Fundamentals and Calligraphy

with Eva Ferenczy-Reichmann

In this class, students will learn not only the principles of drawing, but also how to use different mediums and tools to draw, learning the magic of using lines, and their weight, form, composition, movement, as well as the use of texture to create works to express and translate 3D forms to a 2D surface. Discover the language of drawing through graphite, charcoal, and multiple mediums and tools. Lessons on still-life drawing (and how to set them up), learning to draw faces, realistic proportions, some lessons on perspective, and a special focus on original and creative expression. Some techniques for using ink will also be part of this course.

A bonus as well in this course, dedicating part of the lessons to teaching calligraphy. Somewhat a forgotten art form, which is not only a drawing skill, but a unique and creative way of expression through lettering and written decorative text.

Drawing Anatomy and Capturing the Human Body

Depicting the human form has occupied humanity since the beginning of time. The first 2 classes will include preparatory drawing for live nude models in 6 last classes. We will look at the skeletal structure, how to depict volume of muscle mass, facial structure, foreshortening and gestural poses all in preparation for the last half of the class when a live nude model will pose for you to render.

Drawing for Painters

Are you a seasoned painter but need a refresher on some basic drawing elements to improve your work? This drawing course will teach you observational skills to translate a 3D form onto a 2D surface. You will learn perspective drawing, building a composition, and forms that appear everywhere like cubes and cylinders. Learning how to “see” is the focus of this course.

Mixed Media

Designed for beginners and open to all curious creators, this class will guide you through a wide range of fun and experimental techniques that break away from traditional painting.

You’ll explore how to combine paint with unexpected materials to create layered, dynamic, and completely original works of art. From collage with newsprint and tissue to tape resist, masking, bulletism, and brayer effects, each session introduces you to new tools and methods that will expand your artistic vocabulary.

Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or looking to spark fresh inspiration, this course is about play, discovery, and finding your own unique artistic voice.
